This municipality in the province of Málaga is halfway between the Costa del Sol and the Sierra de las Nieves, and it is partly within the Nature Reserve of the same name, declared a Biosphere Reserve. The Río Verde runs through its territory, traversing exceptional scenery before reaching the Concepción Reservoir.
